Hi Damian

This has been a great series on the use of videos - thanks.

I also think that video is the way to go. I have made a number of them over the past couple of years, mainly in the screen capture mode so people don't have to look at my ugly dial. I use software called Camtasia Studio and find that it works fantastically. It is easy to zoom in and out as well as use transitions to take you from one clip to another. It is packed with features and I can recommend it to those just starting out. I was a total novice, but was producing good quality videos within a week or two. It is not that expensive either.

Thanks for the tips on optimising them for YouTube. Many of us forget about those little things that are so important in the long run.

It has been a most enlightening discussion.

Thanks again

Peter

Hi Damian
I have read your posts with a great deal of interest and enjoyment. You have dealt with the topic very thoroughly and kept everyone's attention with the clever use of web video. Although we are in a similar business it is great to have another perspective on it. We can all do with fresh ideas.
Thank you

Welcome to the final day of our Creativa Web Video Week. It’s been a pleasure chatting to you all about web video and hopefully we have inspired at least a few of you to take the leap into Web Video, we know you won’t be disappointed. For our last and possibly most inspiring post we thought we would show you a real life small business success story with videos:

So rather than talk to you and continue to convince you about the benefits of Web Video, we’d like you to watch this video about Dr Bob Wagstaff the 75 year old inventor of the orabrush he spent 8 years trying to develop and sell this cool little product but it wasn’t until he made a simple little web video that... well you’ll see.

For more on this inspiring story feel free to check out their website and YouTube page

http://orabrush.com

This really just goes to show you the power of web video and the potential to tap into what is literally the largest market in the world. In the meantime if you need any help or a little inspiration we are only a phone call or an email away.

We hope you have enjoyed this week as much as we have and we look forward to seeing your videos soon. To check out what we do and how we do it please feel free to visit http://www.creativa.com.au or check out our YouTube channel

I am happy to answer questions for a few more days if there are any as long as I keep getting the notifications.

See you soon!

I really anted to congratulate you Claire - what a wonderful achievement - 50,000 views! And I couldn't agree more about the fact that people do not but contact lkinks in the description. But it can go even one step further. I had lots of hits (26,500) yet I was still only listed on page 7. I had keywords and thought my description was fine. I then had an 'expert' suggest that I build my keywords from around 10 to 30, put more information in my description and place my URL link in twice (once at the beginning and once at the end).

I dutifully followed his instructions and within a week this video (http://youtu.be/524aKj6-SWI) had moved from page 7 to page 5 - I am still aimimg for page one! I then tried the same with one of my five videos on silk painting (http://youtu.be/1ZA9HObN_Go). The one I changed jumped from page 7 to page 2 in a week and it only had just over 18,000 views ( alot less than the other video). So, it is not just the number of viewers that are importsant - it is also how you set up your description and keywords.

I do think relevance plays an important role too. My 5 silk painting videos have information on design and drawing, placing the design on the silk and preparing the silk when the painting is finished. The one doing so well for the same keyword 'silk painting' actually shows me painting and how the technique works. I would think that this would give it a preference over the others when it is being ranked by Google.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi Claire and Barbara,

I apologise for the delay, I didn't get a notification about new posts..

Claire, Congrats on the 50k views, I just watched some of your videos, and your channel, great job on getting the channel up and running and the viewers interested. Also very interesting how you are using annotations to link the videos at the end.

Barbara, Also great job on the video rankings! some keywords can be really competitive and hard to rank as in YouTube it is mostly global competition.

Here are some tips ideas I got while reading your posts and watching the videos:

Claire, I think the most important part of a video is the content and to make it interesting for the audience, but second is quality to keep them engaged and avoid distractions. I would like you to try 4 very simple things and see how it affects your views and engagement (you can see the engagement graphs ion your YouTube Stats per video)
1- Place the laptop / camera you are using a bit higher when recording so you are not looking down or recording the ceiling.
2- Try using an external microphone and keep the audio levels higher on the video, it is one of the most important factors of engagement.
3- Try creating a very simple image to place in your channel background and also add a descriptions (channels rank on searched too) you might be able to find some ideas / help here http://pimpmychannel.com/youtube-background-template/
4- Add a few seconds of a call to action at the end of the videos, (subscribe, visit my page, Facebook, channel etc) and keep it for a few seconds, then redirect them to the next video.. you might loose some redirects but you might gain some real followers.

Barbara, Ranking ir really important, I went through some of the ways on a previous post, but for everyone reading this post remember that the optimisation process has to start with a good idea of what keywords / phrases you want to rank for based on knowledge about how people search for it. Otherwise you might be wasting valuable time ranking first for a term that nobody uses.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Damian

Damian, I really do appreciate your comments. However, when it comes to keywords I always try for a niche market (to reduce the competition) so always check Googles free keyword tool and aim for a global search bolume of around 2000 -10,000 if possible, I have gone higher and ocassionally lower. However the guy who has been helping me so far, put many othrer keywords on (the main one being 'Stroke Recover') and that seemed to help the ranking - I did not check to see how the volume was on these new keywords - but I will do so now!

I have really only worked on the ranking for the Stroke and 'silk painting' - none of the others have been done as yet, but I would have made the first keyword based on my scenario above.

I liked your comments to claire too, and I will take them on board as well.
Cheers
